Don’t let your summer end without making your very own homemade Coffee Can Ice Cream. This is a Fun and easy recipe to do with kids of all ages.
Ingredients
1 cup—Milk
1 cup—Whipping cream
½ cup—Sugar
½ tsp.—Vanilla
Directions
Place above ingredients in a clean 1 pound coffee can. Seal lid securely. Place this can in a 3 pound coffee can. Pack alternating layers of crushed ice and rock salt. Seal lid securely. Roll on floor back and forth between two or more people for 10 minutes. Open, stir, repack and continue rolling for another ten minutes.
*Note: twenty minutes is typically too long for preschoolers. Try rolling it for 5 minutes, stir, repack and roll for another 5 minutes. Then leave it packed in the ice to “rest” for 10-15 minutes. This method produces the same results and the children don’t get tired. While rolling the can, it is fun to pass the time by singing songs, or counting, or topic call-outs (i.e., “favorite animals”: bat, cat, dog, etc; or, “favorite foods”: apple, ice-cream, chocolate chip cookies, …) – our speech therapists would say:
“I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice-cream!”
